Faith – Śraddhā
Faith, as it is understood in the Vedic spiritual science of Bhakti yoga, is the preliminary stage in the process of self-realisation. Faith, not necessarily as we know it in our culture, refers simply to an attraction to something spiritual. Just enough to pursue to the next step in the scientific experiment of self realisation.
What is that next step then, you say? To spend time with spiritually minded people. The power of association cannot be underestimated. If you want to become wealthy, you naturally surround yourself with successful business people. Similarly, to understand spiritual topics and begin to really live its truths, we can benefit greatly by the friendship and care of those like-minded. But without that initial appreciation or desire, why would we choose Atma over the pub? Bhakti is not about blind faith, sentimental belief or pointless rules. The process is experiential; “the proof is in the pudding”, as they say.
